·Eddie Gale is a free jazz trumpeter, who played with Sun Ra's Arkestra. Early on in his career Eddie was able to sit in with such musicians as CEDAR WALTON, WILBUR WARE, ART TAYLOR, ART BLAKELY, MAX ROACH, JACKIE MACLEAN, ILLINOIS JACQUET, SONNY STITT, CECIL PAYNE, MATTHEW G, SCOBY STROMAN, WYNTON KELLY, RANDY WESTON, WILLIE JONES AND PIANIST ERROL CLARK. ·He has recorded with Cecil Taylor, Sun Ra, Larry Young, and Elvin Jones, and performed with Coltrane, Jackie McLean, Booker Ervin and Illinois Jacquet.
After a introduction by drummer Scoby Stroman, Eddie linked up with Sun Ra. ·During the 60s, and 70s Eddie performed with the Arkestra, until Sun Ra's death in 1993. ·Eddie Gale was in the house with RFT for many shows, often times hearing Hip Hop and the influences Jazz had on the new art. ·Eddie has played with many hip hop acts since then, including The Coup from Oakland. Living in San Jose since 1973, has enabled Eddie to give back in various ways. In the 90s he ran a workshops at the Black Dot in Oakland California. ·RFT talks to Eddie about Free Jazz, Jazz history, current Jazz and the partnership of Black Power and Black Rhythm.
